Description

Between February 7 and 15, 2023, we were able to photograph the beautiful Pacman Nebula NGC 281 in detail for a total of 20.6 hours in SHO. For me (Marco), it was the First Light with my new and first mono camera Touptek (IMX571) from TS
I captured Ha (4.6 hours), OIII (5 hours) and SII (2 hours) with my Lacerta f/4 Newton and added another 11 hours SII that my cousin Tobias Lamb captured with his Takahashi Epsilon 160 ED and ZWO ASI2600MM Pro.

The special thing about it is that although their focal length and optics are very different (1000 mm vs. 530 mm), the data from both telescopes could be perfectly combined.

We are particularly fascinated by the fine structures of molecular clouds, the so-called bok globules. But also the many structures that appear through the sulfur channel.

Check out the full resolution for maximum details.

Image processing by Marco:
- Stacking of each channel (Siril)
- Registration, gradient removal, combination of both SII channels (AstroPixelProcessor)
- BlurXTerminator, StarXTerminator, Spectrophotmetric Color Calibration (PixInsight)
- SHO combination (AstroPixelProcessor)
- Finetuning and combination with stars (Photoshop CC)

Our locations: near Marktbreit & Kronach (northern Bavaria, 110 km apart, Bortle 4-5)
